Operations Supervisor

Position Summary:   

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for supervising all facets of a manufacturing shift including inbound and outbound logistics, material handling, sorting, washing, extrusion, and packaging phases of the manufacturing process.  The Operations Supervisor leads a team of operators, material handlers and production workers who are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the manufacturing facility. The Operations Supervisor works with the Operations Manager to build a highly performing team and achieve operational excellence in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery through the development and training of our people. The Operations Supervisor ensures adherence to all safety rules and programs and compliance with all environmental, regulatory, legal and ethical standards.  Above all else, the Operations Supervisor is one of the front-line leaders who builds our team and drives our culture. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily as well as any other duties that may be assigned.  

  • Creates a safe and collaborative team environment and fosters employee engagement.  Eliminates any unsafe conditions or situations from the facility.

  • Resolves upset conditions with staffing, equipment, raw materials, vendors, and contractors to ensure adherence to the production schedule and facilitate on-time delivery.    
  • Partners with the maintenance department to ensure all equipment remains in working order. 
  • Participates actively in the Kaizen process to help drive operational improvements in all areas. 
  • Build and develop talent on the team, understand employees’ goals and provide coaching to prepare team members for advancement within Circulus. 
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time. 
  • The position shall be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the equipment and area utilizing cleaning solutions, pressure washers and other equipment to accomplish the task, meeting 5S and Preventive Maintenance requirements. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management or apparent. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • Directly supervises on average 20-25 employees within the operation/production team(s). 
  • Indirectly supervises employees from other departments within the plant environment. 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. 
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Experience and Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  
  • Bachelor's degree in business or engineering preferred.  
  • Minimum of 3 years of lead/supervisory experience in a manufacturing, recycling, or military environment. 
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office; Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems preferred; Quality Control software preferred.   
  • Ability to operate manufacturing and material handling equipment such as forklifts, aerial and scissor lifts. 
  • Ability to lead a team of up to 25 people.  Leads by example and willing to work alongside their team. 
  • Process-oriented and results-oriented in setting and pursuing aggressive goals, demonstrating a strong commitment to organizational success, and marshaling resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: 

The work environment is on the plant floor. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and we do expect employees and visitors to wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) including hearing protection while on the plant floor. The Shift Team Lead will be expected to work alongside their team, especially when there are coaching opportunities available or when the plant is experiencing significant operational interruptions.  

  • Able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, overtime, holidays, nights and weekends as required

This position will require the following physical demands. 

  • There will be moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds), standing and walking for several hours at a time. 
  • Frequently required to: stand, climb stairs, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl; work near moving mechanical parts; work around fumes/airborne particles; work in high, precarious places; exposed to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather); exposure to outside weather conditions.  
  • Continually required to: talk or hear; utilize hand and finger dexterity; utilize close and distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Specialized equipment, machines, or vehicles used: Mini Excavator, Skid Steer, Forklift, Clamp Truck, Telehandler, Shredders, Wash line, Extruder
